1. Introductory provisions
 
  Article 1-The Prison Code  
1.1 The Law of Oceanic Union  
  The Penal (Imprisonment) Code of the Oceanic Union consists of this present Code. All existing and new laws providing for the establishment and operation of the corrections system are subject to inclusion in the present Code.
 
  The present Code is granted authority by Article 156 of the Charter of Oceanic Union and therefore may be taken as a legitimate element of the body of the Charter.
 
1.2 Structure of the Prison Code
 
  The Prison Code is structured into chapters, which in turn are divided into articles and then one or more clauses within each article.
 
  The major chapters of the Prison Code are:
 
  1.Introductory provisions
2. Code of conduct
3. Imprisonment and social objectives
4. Needs, Rights, responsibilities and privileges of prisoners
5. General principles of Type 1 (T1) facilities
6. General principles of Type 2 (T2) facilities
7. General principles of Type 3 (T3) facilities
8. General principles of Prisoner Classification
9. Correctional system objects
10. Correctional system facility objects
11. General systems and procedures
 
  While an article may belong to a particular chapter, the numbering of all articles is consecutive so that the entire body of articles of the Prison Code may be read as one, with or without the chapter headings.
